My favourite scenic parks throughout the city for gorgeous fall photos
Fall is one of the most popular seasons for portrait photos and for good reason. Crisp leaves in deep earth tones, carpeting still-green, vibrant grass, hedges with rich deep-red coloured leaves make the perfect backdrop for photo sessions.
Whether you’re having a family, couple or solo session, here are the best spots in Calgary for your fall photoshoot.
Confederation Park
Located in the Northwest, this picturesque park boasts massive trees, a romantic bridge with fairy-tale charm, a little stream flowing over stunning rocks, and expansive fields. I have to admin, it’s one of my favourite locations to go to for fall photos here in Calgary!

Logs are placed throughout the park, providing great spots to pose for photos in ways your kids will actually enjoy. We know that happy kids mean lovely smiles, and that’s what matters most.

In fall, leaves serve as the best props, adding movement and excitement to your photo shoot. Pile them and throw them in the air, have your children run through the leaves or pose with them scattered around you. The options are endless, and the fun is too. You can also bring pumpkins, blankets, pillows, and flowers if you have a specific look or theme in mind.

Scenic locations with rocks and streams provide a great place for candid photos where you can capture special moments exploring, and quiet moments of reflection in nature. Children especially will appreciate not having to sit still for the entire photoshoot, and you’ll likely enjoy the pause too. After all, this photo experience is all about creating memories and having fun!

Pro Fall Photoshoot Tip:
Bring a blanket for a comfortable way to pose in natural surroundings and dress in complementary colours. Matching is great for younger children, but for older children, have them dress in a way that reflects their unique style.
Baker Park
Baker Park is located accross Bowness, close to the Bow River, and is a stunning park for fall photos in Calgary, with various backdrops from scenic pathways to tall grass fields.

Tree archways provide a beautiful natural setting to pose under, highlighting your surroundings while keeping you as the focal point. Leaves lining the pathways add dimension, and pets are always a fun and welcome addition to any photoshoot!

This field with tall grasses and wildflowers is one of my favourites for both posed and candid shots. It adds whimsy and playful elements without extra planning or preparation. Pose, play, run, and twirl in this magical park within Calgary city limits.

If you’re looking for richer colours in your photos, you’ll also find trees and bushes with vibrant red and orange hues in Baker Park. Dress in complementary colours to enhance your photos without too much contrast. Think dresses, sweaters or shirts in earthy tones, dark jeans and neutral t-shirts or blouses.
Fish Creek Provincial Park
Another top pick among locations for fall photos in Calgary is Fish Creek Provincial Park. Located in the south, its forest trails, riverfront pathways, open fields, and wooded areas make it feel like an escape from the city – right in your back yard.

Sun-drenched tall grass offers a dreamy, effortless backdrop for portraits. Simply relax and enjoy the setting while we create stunning photos you’ll love for years to come. Perfect for family, couple, and solo sessions.
The gorgeous, lush green surroundings and wheat-like fields will take care of the rest. Choose a pose that looks effortless yet sophisticated especially when it comes to solo or couple photos.
Not sure what to do with your hands, or where to look? No worries, I am here to guide and help you enjoy your experience.

Let your children play and explore the park to add a fun element to photos and create more dynamic images. These are especially great for their solo portraits as they capture the essence of their personality.
Nose Hill Park
Nose Hill Park, located in the Northwest, is Canada’s fourth-largest urban park. It feels like a hike but has a different look and feel, with beautiful yellow trees instead of forest greenery, making it a bright and beautiful location for fall photos.

A range of natural elements makes each photo feel different and look like you’re shooting at multiple locations, even though you’re really just wandering the expansive park. Choose from open fields to tree-lined pathways and rolling hills.

“This is the best family photographer we have worked with. She made each of the kids feel special and brought out their personalities in the photos. She was patient and creative resulting in beautiful pictures. I love every one!”
